tMosaic
The Key to Enabling Test Automation
- Ensures most effective use of resources for efficient automation
- Provides a fast and reliable means of creating tests for automation
- Reduces time to create and execute automated regression tests
- Allows test automation to be included earlier in the project cycle
- Ensures return on investment in testing tools is achieved
The cost of investment in today's testing tools is significant. The time taken to implement testing strategies can be equally significant. The use of SQS-UK's enabling technology significantly reduces the time taken to successfully deploy effective automated testing.
Why use tMosaic?
Test Automation has been shown to reduce the cost of testing
by a significant amount. tMosaic can further reduce those
costs by providing enabling technology that empowers business
users to expand their automated testing suites, without the
reliance of an in-depth knowledge of testing tools.
The use of SQS-UK's automated testing interface helps reduce the reliance on testing tools record and playback features when extending an automated testing suite to cater for new functionality. This ensures business users can create and extend automated tests, allowing the set-up work for automation to start much earlier in the project lifecycle.
Once established, tMosaic has been proven to contribute to a reduction in the time taken to run a fixed series of tests of more than 50% over manual test execution.
How does it work?
tMosaic is an enabling technology that SQS-UK uses to dramatically
simplify the deployment
and subsequent use of Automated Testing Tools. It has been
proven with all the major automated
tools in the market place.
SQS-UK offer a linked series of packaged offerings based around tMosaic to assist with the automation process.
The Level One service is a premier service geared to establishing
a significant number of tests for the business application.
The Level One service will encompass the training of client
personnel
in the use, maintenance and continued expansion of the tMosaic
automation process.
The Level Two offering is geared to establishing a base set of tests for the application as a stepping stone to helping the client to fully scope the effort involved in providing a full suite of automated tests for the application to be undertaken.
The Level Three package is a QuickStart where SQS-UK will
ensure that the test tool of choice and the application can
work together and support an extensive automation suite. It
will include a
review of the test cases to identify and select those that
are best suited for automation and to help define the automation
strategy for the application. A number of tests will be automated
as part of this process.
For all tMosaic projects, SQS-UK will undertake a technical feasibility study to understand, at a detailed level, the way in which the automation test tool and the application interact. The study will define the configuration requirements of tMosaic that will enable it to be used in the most effective manner. SQS-UK would also undertake a Test Case Survey that would enable outline plans and estimates for the completion of the agreed project.
The Level One and Level Two services are linked to provide
a framework for the automated test
system using tMosaic to be put in place and then fully utilised
in the planning, preparation, proving and execution of a large
number of test scripts.
The Level Two service provides a more detailed and accurate
estimate of the effort required to
automate all the tests required for the application in question.
This then links to the Level One
service, which provides three full days of training for the
client's personnel to enable an automated test system to be
proven and subsequently effectively deployed.
Results
Metrics gathered on completed projects where tMosaic has been
implemented to assist in the deployment of test automation
have shown that a 50% reduction in the time taken to run the
tests are achievable over the time taken to run the same or
similar tests manually.
Examples:
A suite of tests that a client previously had to allow 14
hours of effort to run manually now only takes 6 hours to
execute in automated test mode.
In a further example, another suite previously taking 7 hours to run manually, now takes 2 hours 45 minutes to run using automation techniques enabled using tMosaic methodology.
Both elapsed time and resource costs can be significantly
reduced using tMosaic to support
automation. An SQS-UK automated testing suite will also have
a built in recovery and re-start feature that will allow it
to be run at any time without any human intervention. This
allows test suites to be run outside of normal working hours
with complete confidence.
